This program is designed to prepare students for the role of an assistant Timber Cruiser, or compass-person. Through a comprehensive course curriculum, students will gain foundational skills and knowledge essential for success in this field. The program centers around the fundamentals of timber cruising, encompassing both theoretical concepts and practical field applications, with a focus on sampling and measuring techniques.
Aligned with the criteria set by BCFP’s Cruiser Accreditation, the content of this course meets the competency requirements for Level 1 and partial Level 2. Students will have the opportunity to delve into various cruising methodologies, with particular emphasis on fixed area plot measurement and point sampling. The combination of theoretical instruction and hands-on experiences during field exercises ensures that graduates are well-prepared for their roles as assistant Timber Cruisers, ready to contribute effectively to the forestry industry.

Admission Requirements

- Or successful completion of FSK 030 if the above requirements are not met.
- High School graduation is preferred but not required provided the applicant meets or exceeds the stated prerequisites.
Completion Requirements
- Students will be required to achieve a minimum C (Letter Grade Scale 1) in each course to pass the program.
- The Program must be completed within 2 years.
- A minimum of 50% of the program must be completed at North Island College.
