Fundamentals of Forest Operations Micro-credential

Focused on the operational planning aspects of forestry, this program is designed to provide learners with an understanding of coastal harvesting systems and related skills necessary for entry-level work in the forestry industry. It aims to equip students with the knowledge and practical abilities required for safe and effective field operations.  Learners will be introduced to engineering and survey methodologies relevant to harvest planning. This includes understanding topographic maps, using GPS technology for navigation and mapping, and conducting site assessments to determine the feasibility of logging activities. Learners will also acquire the necessary mathematical skills to analyze and interpret field data. Upon completion, graduates should have the foundational knowledge and skills to start their careers in forest engineering.

  3. Or successful completion of FSK 030  if the above requirements are not met.
  4. High School graduation is preferred but not required provided the applicant meets or exceeds the stated prerequisites.

Completion Requirements


  • Students will be required to achieve a minimum C (Letter Grade Scale 1) in each course to pass the program. 
  • The Program must be completed within 2 years.
  • A minimum of 50% of the program must be completed at North Island College.
