Hospital Unit Clerk Certificate

Acquire the practical skills and knowledge essential for a dynamic career as a unit clerk where you will fulfill a vital role in overseeing information flow within hospital nursing units. You”ll learn to provide essential administrative and clerical support, and training in medical terminology and transcription. Engage in workplace practicums to gain firsthand experience and refine your applied skills.

Admission Requirements


  1.   
  2. C in Principles of Math 10, Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 10, Workplace Math 10, Foundations of Math & Pre-calculus 10, Applications of Math 10, MAT 022 MAT 029 ; or successfully complete a math assessment; and
  3. Keyboarding speed minimum of 30 words per minute with three errors or less. Contact the nearest NIC Campus to book your typing test.

Before Classes Begin

Once you have been accepted to the program, but before classes begin, you will be required to:

  • submit a Criminal Record Check permission form, which will be sent to you by Admissions.
  • complete the Immunization form, which will be sent to you by Admissions. This form will be sent to you by Admissions, and must be validated by a public health nurse at your local health unit and must be submitted on the first day of class. The test must indicate Rubella IgG reactive and Varicella immune status.
  • have strong essay writing and good computer skills as you are expected to submit well written, word processed assignments and access online resources.

Completion Requirements


  • Students must pass HUC 100  and HUC 106  , and achieve a grade of C+ or better in all other courses.
  • You must complete the HUC program within two consecutive terms.
