ABG - 100 Histories and Impacts of Colonization 3 Credit(s) This course provides an exploration of the historical relationships, colonial contexts, and social, economic and political influences that have impacted Aboriginal peoples and communities. Students will examine pre-contact ways of knowing, grounded in local teachings, while exploring the ramifications of the process of colonization, including treaties, the Indian Act, residential schools, and other legislative attempts to assimilate Aboriginal peoples into Euro-Canadian socio-political paradigm.
Prerequisite(s):
- C in one of English Studies 12, Provincial English 12, English First Peoples 12, ENG 060, ENG 096 ,ENG 098 ; or C+ in ESL 092 and ESL 095 ; or English Assessment; or Admission into the Aboriginal Leadership Certificate Program.
