This course explores the shifting legal and political framework of forest governance in BC which presents both opportunities and challenges for First Nations. Emphasis will be placed on the history of resource development in Canada and BC, Aboriginal and treaty rights, legislation, forest tenures (past, current and future), and cultural heritage values from a regional and an Indigenous perspective. Through guided discussions, the course examines the evolving relationships between Indigenous people, the provincial government, and the forest sector.
