Furniture Design and Joinery Certificate

With the Furniture Design and Joinery program, you'll learn to design, construct, finish and repair high-quality wood products such as kitchen cabinets, furniture and fixtures. You'll earn Level 1 technical training credit and work-based training hours toward your Interprovincial (Red Seal) certification as a cabinetmaker when you register as an apprentice. As a graduate, you'll be prepared to pursue a career in millwork, furniture building, cabinet making, marine joinery, residential finishing carpentry, sales or as self-employed artisans.

- Or successful completion of FSK 030
- High school graduation is preferred provided the applicant meets or exceeds the stated prerequisite
Additional Information
- Once accepted to the program, and prior to the end of the first month of the program, students will be expected to ensure they hold and submit a current WHMIS certificate that does not expire before the end of the program.
- Curriculum and certifications may be subject to change as mandated by SkilledTradesBC.
- In this program, field trips to industry specific locations may occur, students’ participation in field trips is mandatory.
Completion Requirements
- Students are required to achieve a minimum C (Letter Grade Scale 2) in each course to pass the program.
- All courses need to be completed at NIC within the start and end dates of the program.
- Students who exit the program without completing must re-apply and complete all courses again.
