Robert Gordon University - Aberdeen Scotland

Open up a world of opportunity by transferring 60 business administration credits to Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen Scotland to earn a degree in just one year, and then return to NIC to earn your second degree - all within four years!

Apply for entry to RGU’s third year BA Management or BA Management with Marketing degree by completing your NIC Business Administration (General Management) diploma or your Business Administration (Marketing) diploma or 60 credits of your NIC Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a cumulative 3.0 G.P.A. (B average) or higher.

RGU will grant you a degree after you successfully complete the third-year of the non-placement route.

If you completed 60 credits of business courses at NIC and the third year of RGU’s BA Management or BA Management with Marketing degree, you can then return to the fourth year of NIC’s Bachelor of Business Administration General Management or Bachelor of Business Administration Marketing degree. This allows you to earn a second degree at NIC with just one more year of study.

Royal Roads Guaranteed Admission

The NIC-RRU Guaranteed Admission Agreement provides NIC students in the Business Administration Diploma program with the marketing option guaranteed admission and course transfer into RRU Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communication program.

Guaranteed admission is a great choice for anyone interested in completing an RRU degree. The agreement bases university admission on your academic performance at NIC rather than your high school transcripts.

In order to claim a seat, you must meet the requirements, including:
• successful completion of an NIC pathway diploma
• achieving a minimum “B” or 3.00 GPA
• satisfactorily completing the appropriate prerequisites
• meeting any required work experience criteria


Universite‘ Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) and NIC Double Degree

NIC’s partnership with University Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB), in France allows you to complete an international double degree and an internship with a major sports brand. You’ll earn USBM’s Diplôme International de Technologie de l’Université (DITUS) International Sales Specialist in Sports and NIC’s Bachelor of Business Administration (Marketing or Management).

The one-year international program takes place in the 3rd year of the NIC BBA Marketing or Management degree and is designed for students who have “an inclination for sales, operational marketing and sport industry, and those who have an international vision.” (USMB). The program consists of 6 months of study with a 4-6 month paid internship. The internships can be with a variety of companies including Salomon, Rossignol, North Face, Patagonia, Columbia Clothing, in France and around the world.

Sixty (60) approved credits (normally 20 courses) must be in process of being completed in the Business or Tourism and Hospitality programs when students apply to the USMB program The following North Island College programs transfer to Universite Savoie Mont Blanc’s Diplôme International de Technologie de l’Université (DITUS), International Sales Specialist in Sports:

The program objective is to train future international sales representatives and managers to master applied sales techniques in the outdoor sports industry and to be capable of working in an international environment. The curriculum provides a solid understanding of sales and operational marketing techniques for the sports markets.  The training is developed in partnership with the Outdoor Sports Valley association, OSV. This association brings together 260 members including 150 active members manufacturers, distributors, retailers or designers in the outdoor industry. OSV’s vocation is to federate, represent and contribute to the development of companies in the outdoor sports industry.  Some OSV companies include: Eider, Fuslap, Lafuma, Patagonia Europe, Salomon, Scott Sports France, The North Face France, Columbia, TSL Outdoor, Vuarnet, etc.


McDonald’s to NIC Degree Pathway

McDonald’s Management Trainees qualify for up to 24 credits toward NIC’s Bachelor of Business Degree (General Management Major). With your McDonald’s Management training, you’ve already completed 20 per cent of your degree.

North Island College will grant transfer credit for successful completion of McDonald’s Management Development Program Levels 1 - 4 (MDP1, MDP2, MDP3 and MDP4) to all applicants who meet NIC’s admission requirements (Eng 12 C+, Math (Foundations 11 C+, Principles 11 C, Applications 12 C, or Pre-Calculus 11 C).

Receive up to 24 transferable credits for the following McDonald’s modules:

MDP3 Restaurant Management = NIC BUS 150 Principles of Management (3 credits)

MDP2 Systems Management = NIC BUS-152 Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management (3 credits)

Team Leadership Development Program & Team Leadership Course = First-year NIC business elective (3 credits)

Vancouver Island University Bachelor of Arts-Graphic Design 

Graduates of NIC’s Communication Design Interactive Media Diploma who have completed 60 credits with an average of C (2.0) or higher, and a minimum grade of C or higher in each individual course completed in their diploma will be considered for admission to Year 3 of the VIU’s Bachelor of Arts (Graphic Design major) with the same registration priority as continuing VIU students. Admission is conditional based on available seats.


Culinary Pathway- Tralee

The NIC-Tralee Articulation Agreement provides NIC students with the opportunity to transfer directly to the Institute of Technology, Tralee.

Graduates of NIC’s Culinary Business Operations Diploma or Professional Cook Level 2 with a minimum grade average of 60% are eligible to enter Year 2 of the IT Tralee Higher Certificate in Arts in Culinary.  On successful completion of the Higher Certificate, a student may progress to Year 3 of the Bachelor of Arts in Culinary Arts.

Graduates of NIC’s Culinary Business Operations Advanced Diploma or Professional Cook Level 3 are eligible to enter Year 3 of the Bachelor of Business Arts in Culinary Arts at IT Tralee.

Transfer your NIC fine arts courses for credit in the AUArts’ Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Design

Complete your NIC Fine Arts diploma with an average of C (2.0) or higher) including first and second year liberal studies courses outlined below to be considered for admission to Year 3 of AUArts’ Bachelor of Fine Arts degree on the basis of their academic standing and a portfolio review.

As an NIC transfer student you will be given the same priority admission as continuing AUArts students when applying to:

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts majors in media arts, sculpture, fibre, painting, drawing, ceramics, print media, glass and jewellery + metals.
  • Bachelor of Design majors in photography and visual communication design.

Emily Carr University of Art + Design

Guarantee your admission to Emily Carr’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) or Bachelor of Fine Arts (Critical and Cultural Practices)

Complete your NIC Fine Arts diploma with a cumulative 3.0 GPA (B average) or higher to be automatically accepted into year three of Emily Carr’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) or Bachelor of Fine Arts (Critical and Cultural Practices) degree. If your cumulative GPA is between 2.0 and 2.99 you will be considered for admission to year three of the BFA on the basis of your academic standing and a portfolio review.

Transfer up to 63 credits. Complete your NIC Fine Arts diploma with a cumulative 2.0 GPA (C average) or higher to be considered for admission to the following programs on the basis of your academic standing and a portfolio review. Note that these programs have competitive entry and therefore your portfolio should reflect work that is consistent with your intended major.

Transfer Seamlessly to UVic’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) or UVic’s Bachelor of Arts (Art History and Visual Studies)

With dual admission you can secure a seat in UVic’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) or Bachelor of Arts (Art History and Visual Studies). With dual admission you can study for up to two years at NIC while working toward UVic’s BFA in Visual Arts or UVic’s BA in Art History and Visual Studies.

Vancouver Island University (VIU)

  • Graduates of NIC’s Fine Arts Diploma who have completed 60 credits with an average of C (2.0) or higher will be considered for admission to Year 3 of the VIU’s Bachelor of Arts (Visual Art major) with the same registration priority as continuing VIU students. NIC is one of six Canadian post-secondary institutions to take part in Disney’s International Academic Exchange program. This unique, international learning opportunity gives NIC business or tourism and hospitality management students a competitive edge.

As an academic exchange student, you will study at the University of California, Riverside campus and participate in field experiences at popular attractions in southern California. When complete, you will move on to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, where you will have the opportunity to gain paid, work experience. You will graduate from your work term with a certificate from the University of California, Riverside in either Management or Hospitality and Tourism Management.

University of Victoria Engineering Transfer Agreements

NIC’s guaranteed transfer agreement with UVic ensures that students with a minimum GPA of C+ (UVic 3.0 or NIC 2.33), and no grade less than a C, compete on an equal footing with UVic students entering second year computer, electrical, mechanical, biomedical, civil or software engineering programs. Many of NIC’s first-year courses also transfer directly to engineering programs at BC, SFU and other institutions.

To be eligible for the NIC/UVic dual admission program you must be deemed eligible for admission by both UVic and NIC and submit an NIC/UVic Dual Admission application form. Dual admission is available to both Canadian and international students graduating from high schools in the North Island College region. University of Manitoba Student Mobility

The North Island College-University of Manitoba Supplementary Student Mobility Agreement provides NIC students improved access to Bachelor of Arts general and integrated studies degrees at the University of Manitoba.

NIC and University of Manitoba work together to provide you with guaranteed credit for eligible NIC courses toward your university degree. 

Canadian Forces Benefits

Canadian Forces members are encouraged to speak to the Personnel Selection Officer at their base to learn more about available educational opportunities.

  • Credit for rank:  Canadian Forces members can apply to receive up to six 100-level unassigned arts credits toward their degree. When you take courses at the University of Manitoba, they will evaluate your degree credit for rank and for specific evaluated military courses and training.   • Reduced residency:  Canadian Forces members and their families are required to complete only 12 course credits from the University of Manitoba. Contact a University of Manitoba military advisor for details.
  • Seamless transition:  Ready to start University of Manitoba courses? You can apply online. Once requested, NIC will automatically forward your official transcript at no charge to the University of Manitoba.
  • Student support:   NIC’s military advisor can provide program knowledge and personal support to get you started. If military duties interrupt your coursework, advisors can help to arrange extensions on class assignments, authorize withdrawals and provide additional support.

Paid Education Opportunities

The Canadian Forces encourages all military personnel to consider academic upgrading. Personnel pursuing a college diploma or university degree through NIC or other academic institutions may be eligible to have their tuition fees, books and administrative costs reimbursed if those courses lead to a diploma or baccalaureate and are assessed as being beneficial to their current military occupation.  Individuals interested in pursuing academic upgrading should contact the Wing Personnel Selection Officer at 250-339-8211 ext. 8293 to explore opportunities.

  • satisfactorily complete appropriate prerequisite courses and NIC’s related credentials and coursework
  • meet any required work experience criteria

University of Victoria Guaranteed Admission 

The NIC-UVic Guaranteed Admission for NIC Transfer Students Agreement provides NIC students with guaranteed admission and course transfer to many UVic programs. 

To be eligible for UVic Guaranteed Admission, you must:

  1. Complete at least 24 credits (8 courses) of university transfer courses that are eligible for transfer to UVic. Students are responsible for ensuring that their chosen courses transfer to their intended program of study at the university. Please use the BC Transfer Guide online to check transferability AND meet with an NIC student advisor for guidance BEFORE registering in courses.
  2. Achieve a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 (C letter grade) average on your most recent 24 credits of NIC coursework prior to entering studies at the University of Victoria.
  3. Admission to programs within UVic’s Faculty of Science requires completion of specific math and science courses at the high school or post secondary level.
  4. When you are ready to transfer to UVic, submit your admission request to UVic by completing and sending it with your NIC transcripts to UVic Undergraduate Admissions.

University of Victoria Dual Admission

Be admitted to UVic while you study at NIC and take advantage of the benefits both schools have to offer. You will save money by paying NIC’s application fees and tuition while at NIC. We will make sure your transcripts get to UVic so you won’t have to pay transcript fees when transferring. If you qualify for a UVic entrance scholarship, it will be waiting for you when you’re ready

How does it work? 

  • Apply once by filling out the special UVic dual admission application at NIC. Meet UVic’s program requirements and take advantage of NIC’s lower tuition while taking classes here.
  • To be eligible for the dual admission program, students must be deemed eligible for admission by both the University of Victoria and North Island College. Dual admission program opportunities are available to both Canadian and International students currently attending local high schools in their graduating year in the North Island College geographical region.
  • Each March, NIC will send you a self declaration letter that asks if you will be attending UVic the upcoming September. Once you return this letter indicating you will be attending UVic, NIC will send your transcripts, at no charge to you, to UVic Admissions. This will let them know that they can start sending UVic registration information directly to you.
  • If you do not intend to start at UVic the following September, NIC will continue sending you a self declaration letter until you transfer to UVic, or up to three years, whichever comes first.
  • As a dual admission student, you can transfer up to two years (60 credits) of study. You must transfer within three years of UVic’s dual admission offer.

To be considered for early admission, you must submit application forms for UVic programs to NIC by Feb 28. Limited spaces are available.

Vancouver Island University Dual Admission

Dual Admission students must meet VIU’s general admission requirements. Applicants can apply to either VIU or NIC and must identify that they wish to apply to the NIC-VIU Dual Admission/Co-Admission option.

In addition,

Bachelor of Arts:

  • General admission requirements include an option for mature students who were unable to complete secondary school.

Bachelor of Science:

  • Principles of Mathematics 12 with a minimum “B” grade is a prerequisite for the required Math courses.
  • Other high school science courses may be required for the different Majors and Minors.
  • No more than 60 credits can be transferred from elsewhere toward a VIU degree.
  • Application deadline for Bachelor of Science admission is March 31.  

University of Northern British Columbia Dual Admission

To be eligible for the North Island College - University of Northern British Columbia Dual Admission program, students must be deemed eligible for admission by both the University of Northern BC and North Island College.  Dual admission program opportunities are available to both Canadian and International Students.

NIC and UNBC are offering science majors a direct path for completing a four-year bachelor degree in biochemistry and molecular biology, chemistry, environmental science, mathematics or physics. Study at an NIC campus for one or two years, taking approved courses for credit toward your degree at UNBC. Whether you transfer at the end of Year 1 or the end of Year 2 is up to you. Either way, you’ll enjoy a seamless transition into your UNBC program. No need to re-apply, order transcripts or make additional requests.

After completing Year 3 of your science program, you will be eligible to apply for the Northern Medical Program, which trains healthcare professionals to meet the needs of under-served rural communities. Or, you may compete for a seat in UNBC’s competitive Health Sciences programs once you arrive. The choice is yours.

Vancouver Island University Education Pathway

The Education pathway is designed to meet the general first-year course requirements of degree programs province-wide. NIC’s educational advisors will work with you to personalize this plan to meet your personal interests, goals and university of choice.

Study plans offer a great deal of flexibility. You can choose your preferred courses, making it possible to concentrate studies in one specific area or explore a variety of subjects to meet the requirements of your university of choice.

Course subjects may include: anthropology, biology, business, chemistry, criminology, economics, English, equity and social justice, fine arts, First Nations studies, French, geography, history, mathematics, philosophy, physics, political science, psychology, sociology, space science and astronomy, Spanish and women’s studies.

To qualify as a transfer student, many universities require a minimum of eight courses (24 credits) and a specific grade point average. The Bachelor of Education transfer plan usually outlines 30 course credits, which may be taken on a full or part-time basis.
