Underground Mining Essentials Certificate

The Underground Mining Essentials certificate is designed as an entry point into the mining industry. Training is designed for individuals with limited experience, who have a desire to work in the field and gain the fundamental skills to pursue entry level positions in the mining sector. Skills gained in the program are directly transferable to entry-level positions in operations specific to underground mining, open pit mining and sand/gravel quarry mining.

Admission Requirements

Or successful completion of FSK 030 if the above requirements are not met.

High School graduation is preferred in addition to the stated prerequisites

MIN - 100 Introduction to the Mining Industry
MIN - 101 Mining Health and Safety
MIN - 102 Fundamentals of Mining Technologies
MIN - 103 Introduction to Mining Skills
MIN - 104 Emergency Mining Procedures
MIN - 105 Worksite Readiness
The following industry certifications will be scheduled within the program cluster and you are required to complete the below co-requisites to achieve the program credential.
OFA - 001 WHMIS 2015
OFA - 010 Occupational First Aid Level 1
MVO - 069 Trans of Dangerous Goods- Comprehensive
CTQ - 010 Construction Safety Training Systems
FAC - 021 Red Cross Standard First Aid with CPR Level C 1
GAS - 010 H2S Alive
TRD - 016 Aerial Lift Safety
The certificate program is comprised of a total of 340 hours of instruction in addition to 61 hours of industry certification to meet the program requirements.

In this program, students may participate in field trips to industry specific locations.

Completion Requirements

Students will be required to achieve a minimum C (Letter Grade Scale 2) in each course and successfully pass all industry certificate courses to receive the Underground Mining Essentials Certificate.
