Learn more about Fundamentals of GIS Mapping and Drone Operations Micro-credential

The Orientation to GIS Mapping and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) program provides participants with training on emerging technology, fosters standardization of data collection methods, promotes industry best practices and leads the industry on low-level aerial data collection.

In this program, students will be introduced to Geographic Information System (GIS) basic tools and applications, work with digital data collection and integration, and learn how to query databases and create file management structures for GIS data. They will gain hands-on experience using GIS selection and geoprocessing tools to create georeferenced maps, develop reports, and present analysis using projections and tabular data.

Remotely Piloted Aircrafts Systems (RPAS), commonly known as drones, training will equip students to obtain the basic small RPAS operator’s license (250g - 25kg class) along with practical flying skills and the use of relevant applications. An additional industry certificate in Restricted Operator Certificate-Aeronautical is included to provide students with the skills to communicate safely and effectively using standardized industry terminology and protocols.
