How does it work?
- Apply once by filling out the special UVic dual admission application at NIC. Meet UVic’s program requirements and take advantage of NIC’s lower tuition while taking classes here.
- To be eligible for the dual admission program, students must be deemed eligible for admission by both the University of Victoria and North Island College. Dual admission program opportunities are available to both Canadian and International students currently attending local high schools in their graduating year in the North Island College geographical region.
- Each March, NIC will send you a self declaration letter that asks if you will be attending UVic the upcoming September. Once you return this letter indicating you will be attending UVic, NIC will send your transcripts, at no charge to you, to UVic Admissions. This will let them know that they can start sending UVic registration information directly to you.
- If you do not intend to start at UVic the following September, NIC will continue sending you a self declaration letter until you transfer to UVic, or up to three years, whichever comes first.
- As a dual admission student, you can transfer up to two years (60 credits) of study. You must transfer within three years of UVic’s dual admission offer.
To be considered for early admission, you must submit application forms for UVic programs to NIC by Feb 28. Limited spaces are available.

- What is Dual Admission?
Dual Admission is a new way for high school students to be admitted to UVic while studying at NIC. It’s designed for students who want the best of both worlds-smaller classrooms, less cost, and admission to UVic right out of high school.
- How does it work?

- Why should I apply for Dual Admission?
With dual admission you’ll be a UVic student, guaranteed. There’s no uncertainty about where you’re going or whether your courses will transfer. You also get to start your UVic degree at home, giving you time to save more money, get used to university level courses, and then move to UVic when you’re ready.

- As a UVic Dual Admission Student, will I pay tuition to NIC or UVic?
Pay NIC tuition while you attend classes here. UVic tuition applies for all classes taken at UVic. You save money by paying one application fee and NIC’s lower tuition. There are no transcript fees and you skip costly rent and living expenses while here. See the costs tab for up to date tuition.
- How do I know if I’m qualified?
To be eligible for the dual admission program, you must be deemed eligible for admission by both the University of Victoria and NIC. - Do I need to do anything else?
You’ll need to submit your interim high school transcripts as part of the application process. Contact Kim Kobus or Marilyn Nettleton, NIC’s educational advisor specialists on Dual Admission to discuss getting your records in before the deadline.
- What about while I’m at NIC?
As a Dual Admission student, you will need to keep your grades up to meet UVic’s GPA requirements, just like all of UVic’s other first year students. Eventually, you’ll also need to tell us when you want to register at UVic.
- When do I need to decide?
As soon as possible. UVic’s early admission deadline is Feb. 28. Limited spaces are available.

Scholarship Opportunities
Get access to UVic entrance awards while maintaining your eligibility to more than $220,000 in scholarships and bursaries available at NIC.
With UVic Dual Admission you start your degree at NIC, knowing you are eligible for the following awards:
- NIC Foundation awards: The North Island College annually recognizes new and continuing students with financial need and students who achieve academic excellence with scholarships and bursaries. View NIC’s Awards online or visit any NIC campus or centre to pick up a booklet.
- Entrance awards: Apply to UVic Dual Admission at NIC, and you will be eligible for $1,000 to $20,000 in UVic entrance awards, available over four years to Grade 12 students who meet UVic’s GPA requirements. Your scholarship will be deferred until you’ve registered in 12 units in two consecutive terms of study at UVic. See UVic’s Entrance Scholarships for Undergraduates for details.
- General and specific scholarships and bursaries: Let UVic Dual Admission open the door to the many scholarships and bursaries available to UVic students. The university offers scholarships based on your grades, named awards based on your extra-curricular activities or field of study, and bursaries to students with demonstrated financial need.
